Signum Bildtechnik intends to push forward the developments in the field of optical and visual based driving assistance systems by transferring new ideas into efficient systems and products to be integrated in modern vehicles. In order to increase the comfort and the safety while driving, Signum Bildtechnik has initiated a research project together with the University of Bremen, having as pilot users relevant German car and parts manufacturers. The aim of the project is to design a selective darkening panel with the ability of activating (darkening) a certain area of the windshield, in order to minimize the dazzling due to the sun during the day or due to the headlights of the approaching vehicles, while keeping the rest of the windshield surface transparent. By this, the annoying effect of dazzling is reduced while the visibility over the other areas is improved, allowing the driver to see possible obstacles or persons.
